NF2 Awareness Day 2021

When it comes to Neurofibromatosis Type 2, celebration isn’t a word that comes to mind often. But NF2 BioSolutions is working to improve outcomes for everyone touched by NF2. Today is NF2 Awareness Day! To recognize the occasion, we’re sharing exciting announcements about our current fundraising campaign, as well as an upcoming project led by NF2 BioSolutions UK, which will work towards a new treatment in NF2! Read on for more information about how we’re making a difference.

Big News from NF2 BioSolutions UK!

NF2 BioSolutions UK & Europe, together with NF2 BioSolutions are excited to announce a new transatlantic partnership with researchers at the newly opened Geoffrey Jefferson Brain Research Centre (GJBRC) to support research into the role of inflammation in NF2 Schwannoma and Meningioma tumour growth. It appears that tumors which have inflammation are more prone to growth. If we control the inflammation, then we might control the tumor growth. There is a real potential that this research will lead to new treatments for those affected by NF2 by repurposing existing anti-inflammatory & immune-modulating drugs. Such drugs are widely used in conditions such as multiple sclerosis and rheumatoid arthritis.

The research will be led by Dr. Omar Pathmanaban, the Strategic Development lead, and a neurosurgeon, along with Dr. Gareth Evans, a world renowned NF2 expert and NF2 BioSolutions UK & Europe charity trustee. It will be conducted by 2 PhD studentships funded by NF2 BioSolutions UK & Europe. The initiative will cost £200.000. We will be in touch in the coming weeks about fundraising for this exciting, new initiative! Please read this press release for further information

So far, these 70 families who signed up for the 100 Fighters Challenge have raised nearly $80,000!

The 100 Fighters Challenge Fundraiser is working to raise $100,000 to jumpstart a new approach which leverages the Pfizer/Moderna Covid19 vaccine delivery technique using lipid nanoparticles (LNPs) as a mechanism to deliver genes to replace mutated NF2 genes or induce tumor cell death. This advanced delivery technique allows multiple treatments over a person’s lifetime. It could also be used as a booster years after a viral based gene therapy.

Many who signed up for the challenge have already met their goals! Below are the names of some of our fundraisers who have already completed the challenge and agreed to be publicly “thanked”. Thank you!!

For those who are in the middle of fundraising, or about to begin — you can do it! We appreciate your efforts to help us treat and cure NF2. $100,000 will fund a full-time researcher and lab expenses for 12 months. The goal is within reach! NF2 Biosolutions is also eager to support you with your fundraisingClick here to sign up!
